The films from our distribution roster scooped up three awards: Žarko, You Will Spoil the Child! by Milivoj and Veljko Popović won the Audience Award ‘Mr. M’ for the Grand Competition Short Film, as well as the Best Croatian Film, while Three Birds by Zarja Menart took home a Special Jury Award.
Milivoj and Veljko Popović’s Žarko, You Will Spoil the Child! is produced by Prime Render Studio, Bagan Films and 3D2D Animatori. The Animafest jury said the film “surprised us with its endearing, touching but also funny approach to a personal and historical topic. In a daring and smart way, the filmmakers use different animation techniques to create a film with a genuine and raw touch”. The film also received a financial prize in the amount of 1,000 euros awarded by the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild.
“It is a great honour to be an Animafest audience darling, that’s why the Audience Award ‘Mr. M’ for Žarko, You Will Spoil the Child! means a lot!” – said the authors of the film.
The jury was also impressed with the Slovenian-Croatian film, Three Birds by Zarja Menart (produced by Finta Film and Adriatic Animation). The animated short received a Special Jury Award from jury member Naomi Van Niekerk, who stated “the film kept me on the edge of my seat and got under my skin with its layered visuals and captivating sound design”.
Besides the awarded films, the 37th edition of Animafest Zagreb screened three more Bonobostudio films in its competition programs: On Hold by Delia Hess (Grand Competition -–Short Film), Butterfly by Sunčana Brkulj (Grand Competition – Short Film; Croatian Film Competition) and Catlands by Ana Čigon (Croatian Film Competition).
