Sonámbulo awarded at Animafest!

Award sonambulo animafest
We are so proud and happy that Theodore Ushev’s film won a Special Award at Animafest Zagreb.

Fantastic Sonámbulo was awarded with a Special Award at Animafest Zagreb by one of the jury members of the short competition program, an Oscar winning animator and director Chris Landreth! Famous Canadian winner of the Academy award for the best short animated film (Ryan, 2005) awarded it as a film with crazy abstract beauty, perhaps channeling Miro, perhaps nodding to MacLaren, but dancing to its own entirely original beat, demonstrating how purely joyful abstract animation can be.

Sonámbulo is inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca’s poem Romance Sonámbulo and the magnificent images of the European surrealist paintings. Music was made by a Bulgarian musician Kottarashky. The film was screened at many festivals: Holland Animation Film Festival, IndieLisboa, Vienna Independent Shorts, and by the end of the summer there will be many more like Annecy, Melbourne, Edinburgh, Curtas Vila do Conde, Anima Mundi and so on.

Animafest ended on Sunday, June 14th, when the animators and friends move to Annecy. Bonobostudio also travels to France, where we will, among other things, promote the awarded film by Theodore Ushev, which is also competing in Annecy’s main short film competition program.

You can read about our plans for Annecy here. And here you can read about the awarded films at Animafest Zagreb.
