Animation director Veljko Popović has just finished his new film, Planemo, in his own production Lemonade 3D / Krupni kadar, and in co-production with 3D2D Animatori. Bonobostudio is in charge of distribution, with the first big gig scheduled this March: a world premiere in the competition program at the famous Holland Animation Film Festival in Utrecht. HAFF runs since 1985, and it’s one of the most important animated film festivals in the world.
What is a planemo? It’s a celestial body somewhere between a star and a planet, or as Popović says: "a solitary wanderer, sentinel of the galaxy, orphaned world, a celestial body booted from its solar system by the chaos of planetary migration."
We could add: it’s a 13-minute animated film with remarkable aesthetics which reflects about individuals ejected from their every-day routines.
Veljko Popović directed few fantastic animated films. He started his film career with She Who Measures (Kenges, 2008), winning that same year Special Mention at Animafest and FIPRESCI Award at Annecy. He then directed My Way (Bold Studio, 2009), in collaboration with Svjetlan Junaković, followed by another success, Dove sei, amor mio (Bonobostudio, 2011), which won – among other recognitions – a special plaque at the Sarajevo Film Festival. He had also directed one episode of the renowned international co-production Father (2012), now with more than 100 000 views on Vimeo. He works and lives in Split, and teaches animation at the Split Art Academy.
