Rossignols en décembre (Nightingales in December) is a new film by a Bulgarian-Canadian animator Theodore Ushev, a director known for his beautiful film Lipsett’s Diaries which travelled the world in the past two years winning many awards at some of the most prestigious festivals of animation. Arthur Lipsett was a Canadian artist and animator fighting with depression, and some of his films are still to be discovered as early master-pieces of avant-garde (cut out) animation. Diaries were produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), a major production company with which Theo successfully collaborates for years.
Ushev’s new film, a metaphorical surrealist tale Nightingales in December, is an impressionistic voyage into the memories, and the fields of the current realities. The film has just recently started its crazy festival life, but it can already be proud of the successful screenings at Animafest, Annecy, Stuttgart, Utrecht, Toronto, Hiroshima… and awards at Tampere and Lisbon.
We hope that we’ll sing more good news together with the Nightingales!
