The festival was held in Maribor, Slovenia, Oct 8 – 11, while the second instalment will take place in Lodz, Nov 6 – 8. StopTrik IFF includes two competition programs: the International Stop Motion Competition and the Borderlands Competition, dedicated to hybrid cinematic forms that highlight the experimental and mixed-media potential of animation. The Borderlands program among others featured Microcassette – The Smallest Cassette I've Ever Seen. This year, the festival took place in partially reduced form due to measures for the prevention of the coronavirus pandemic, hence, only the audience and the student jury awards were presented. In the competition devoted to hybrid films, Borderlands, both the Maribor Audience Grand Prix and the Maribor Student Jury Award were awarded to Microcassette – The Smallest Cassette I've Ever Seen.
“This hybrid of film genres charmed us with its lightness, immediacy and humor,” said the statement of the student jury. The Borderlands competition included a total of 11 films.
In the International Stop Motion Competition, the Audience Grand Prix went to Machini, created by authors Tétshim & Frank Mukunday, while the Maribor Student Jury Award in the International Stop Motion Competition was bestowed on Sororal by authors Louise Mercadier and Frédéric Even.
