OIAF is one of the most relevant festivals of animated films – and this year it is celebrating its 40th edition. We are honoured to show our films at the anniversary edition and celebrate OIAF’s fifth festival decade. After a successful presentation at the 39th festival – which brought a Special Mention to Theodore Ushev’s Sonámbulo – this year we are showing two films in the main Short Film Competition program and one in World Panorama.
Competition program features a premiere screening of Špela Čadež’ Nighthawk – co-produced by Finta Film, RTV Slovenija and Bonobostudio. This is Špela’s second film, after a wildly popular puppet animation Boles. It’s a story about a crazy night drive of a drunken badger, an anti-hero high on fermented fruits. Brand new Slovenian-Croatian film will travel to Canada with Planemo by Veljko Popović, who just returned from Annecy and Vila do Conde, just in time to celebrate its North American premiere in Ottawa. Petra Zlonoga’s Dota also returned from the French festival lake and it will also have its North American premiere at OIAF.
This year OIAF received more than 2,000 films from 86 countries; 111 shorts were selected for the main competition programs and 49 for the Panorama. The festival takes place September 21 – 25.
