We can’t really remember when was the last time we *haven’t* screened our film at Animafest Zagreb. That’s why we are always super excited at the beginning of June! The 29th Animafest edition will feature three of our works in the main competition programs: One of Many by Petra Zlonoga and Imbued Life by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson (both produced by Bonobostudio) in the Grand Competition for Short Films and Croatian Competition, and A Cat Is Always Female by Martina Meštrović and Tanja Vujasinović in the Croatian Competition program.
Imbued Life, a new film by our puppet animation masters Bošnjak-Johnson, already travelled to many film festivals such as Oberhausen and Krakow. It is their second professional film after Simulacra (2014), which was also screened at both Animafest Zagreb and Annecy, but in the special stop-animation program, and won ten awards at 60 international film festivals. Their new film, Imbued Life, focuses on the interconnection of humans and nature and the preservation of life’s mystical energy.
Petra Zlonoga’s One of Many arrives to Animafest after several great festivals such as Animateka and the ASIFA Croatia Special Mention. Similar to Imbued Life, Zlonoga’s film also orbits around life’s mystical powers.
A Cat Is Always Female by Martina Meštrović and Tanja Vujasinović is an homage to the authors’ teacher from the Art Academy in Zagreb, one of the most important Croatian sculptors, Marija Ujević Galetović.
In special programs we are screening several Animafest award-winners from the past editions: Cyclists by Veljko Popović (Best Croatian Animated Film 2018) will be screened in the Art and Animation program, Jelena Oroz’s Two for Two (Croatian Program Special Mention 2018) in the CEE Talents section and Hedgehog’s Home by Eva Cvijanović (Audience Award and Jury Special Mention 2017) in the Animacikl program.
We are really looking forward to the festival week in Zagreb and then in Annecy. But we also have to say that we are very happy to visit these two major festivals with a mainly female crew.
