After a two-year festival tour, our film Here There will get a new life on the internet. A five-minute film by Alexander Stewart is finally available on our Vimeo channel, but also on the Labocine Platform, curated by Imagine Science Festival, where it will be available for streaming from April 4 to May 1 in the Altered Perceptions issue. Labocine is an Imagine Science initiative to extend the film programming to a broader and diverse audience. By the end of 2016, Labocine featured approximately 1,000 films.
Here There is a travelogue, and it reflects on the uncertainty of our memory: what we remember, and for how long. The film begins, as the author says: "as a traveler’s sketchbook, drawn in Croatia in the summer of 2014, but details soon fade away into abstract impressions on the edges of memory." The film was produced by Bonobostudio, with a contribution from a team of local animators and artists: Darko Masnec, Ivan Košutić, Jelena Oroz, Dina Karadžić and others.
Here There was presented at approximately forty international festivals: OIAF, DOK Leipzig, Slamdance, Ann Arbor, Rotterdam, Animateka, GLAS Animation, Go Short, VIS, Animafest, Edinburgh, Encounters to name a few, and it won a Special Mention at the Revue of Croatian Short Films.
Alexander Stewart is the author of many experimental/animated films. Since recently, he has moved from the DePaul University in Chicago to CalArts, where he teaches Experimental Animation course. He is a co-organizer of Eyeworks Festival, and lives in Los Angeles.
