We really didn’t expect that Hedgehog would be so popular abroad as it is here with us who grew up with his story. But 23 international awards this year prove that Hedgehog’s Home is equally loved in both Japan and Banjaluka!
10th Banjaluka International Animated Film Festival (23 – 28 October) brought an Audience Award to this Canadian-Croatian co-production, and we are truly humbled by it. The popular opinion means a lot to us! But we are also happy to be recognized in the faraway Japan. We already wrote about New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival (2 – 5 November), when Planemo won one of the awards. The festival has a strange premise; it is taking place at the airport terminal in Hokkaido but that’s whay it has more than 30,000 visitors! This year, Hedgehog’s Home and the director Eva Cvijanović had a great time at the airport, and they won both Main Jury Mention and Children’s Jury Prize. Grand jury shared their thoughts and said that film “tells a story about caring for your natural habitat and not falling into the disease of mass consumerism. All the elements in the film – animation, scenography, photography, music and sound, editing – are brought to a masterful execution.”
