Veljko Popović’s film was awarded at festivals in Banjaluka and Nantes! more
Špela Čadež’s Nighthawk, a film co-produced with Finta Film and RTV Slovenia, won the Grand Prix in short competition program at Animafest Zagreb! Jury members Michaela Pavlátová, Rosto, Amid Amidi, Nobuaki Doi and Marko Tadić shared their statement: "This seemingly simple but surprisingly complex film adds a new layer to a traditional animation technique of multiplane cut-out. It uses parallel storytelling to switch between different perceptions to effectively create an extremely engaging tragedy of a man/animal.”
Together with the main award for the drunken Badger, our Hedgehog will also travel to Annecy in a very good mood. Hedgehog’s Home won two (!) Animafest Zagreb prizes: the favourite Audience Award and a Special Mention from one of the jury members, Croatian animator and artist Marko Tadić. We really liked his short statement: “Many lives have been moulded by this short and symbolic story that brought joy to many kids of all ages. I am a living proof that even after hearing it six trillion times in one car ride to the seaside it does not ever get boring.”
Awards are not the only thing to be happy about; it was a great week filled with films and great people. We also celebrated a premiere of Dalibor Barić’s film Astronaut of Featherweight, a Bonobostudio production, Animafest exhibition featured some of the sets from Hedgehog’s Home, and Eva Cvijanović and Hedgehog co-producer Jelena Popović, NFB, presented lectures in the festival ‘pro’ section.
More good news for the end: Hedgehog’s Home won the First Prize in MIDI senior category at the festival of animated films for children VAFI in Varaždin, Croatia and the Best Animation Award at the Revue Kratki na brzinu in Sveti Ivan Zelina, while Nighthawk won the Best Editing Award at the Revue Kratki na brzinu. And if you still haven’t seen the films, today we are at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Split, and tomorrow – already in Annecy! We are expecting a very exciting and lovely festival, as always.
