Five Bonobostudio films at Annecy IAF

Five films in Bonobostudio’s distribution screening at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, held 12 – 17 June 2023.

Martina Meštrović’s Her Dress for the Final, inspired by the author’s grandmother, had its international premiere in the Short Films Competition, after screening at Animafest Zagreb where it won a Special Mention. The same program also featured the winner of the Oktavijan critics’ award for Best Animated Film of 2022, the playful festival favorite – 11 created by Vuk Jeremović, as well as the world premiere of Sweet Like Lemons directed by Finnish artist Jenny Jokela, about the breakup of a toxic emotional relationship.

Remember How I Used to Ride a White Horse created by Ivana Bošnjak Volda and Thomas Johnson Volda about an apathetic waitress who ardently wants to escape her predictable daily life had its world premiere at the 2022 Ottawa International Animation Festival, and was screened at Annecy in the Perspectives short film competition.

A special program, True Queer Stories, featured the multi-award-winning festival hit All Those Sensations in My Belly directed by Marko Dješka. The main character in the film – which has garnered close to thirty awards at international festivals – is Matia who transitions from male to female gender and tries to find a sincere intimate relationship with a heterosexual man.
